Mission Statement
The mission Faith Lutheran Church is to extend the front porch of the House of God, that we might provide a
place that people feel welcome and comfortable to enter God's House and receive the true meal of the
presence of our Lord, in order that all might become part of the family of God in Christ.
Our History - Established 1899
On March 26,1899, 14 local Lutherans organized to form Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church under the
Reverend R.L. Brown. The lot on which the church is build was a gift to the congregation by Mr. and Mrs. D. A.
Wiley. During the summer, weather permitting, services were held under a brush arbor on the lot, and when
not convenient there, they were held in a building used by the “Farmers Alliance” near where the Faith Post
Office now stands. On February 17, 1900, the President of the North Carolina Synod laid the cornerstone for
the original church. (see pictures to the left). By 1902, the membership had grown to approximately 100. In
1905, a parsonage was added to the campus and was remodeled in 1927. Under the leadership of Reverend
C. P. Fisher the Sunday School grew to be the largest in the county, with a membership of 600, the average
attendance being approximately 400. The last service held by Reverend Fisher was March 1, 1918.
On June 1, 1919, Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church became self-sustaining separating itself from the
Emmanuel congregation (whose parish it was originally placed under). As the congregation continued to
grow, the need for a larger church became more apparent. On April 14, 1935, a Building Fund was launched
with a staggering initial offering of $29.60! The last service was held in the old church on December 28, 1947.
While the new church was being constructed, services were held in the public school building in Faith. The
first service in the completed building was held on the First Sunday in Lent, February 11, 1951. The building
was completely paid for in 5 years. This building remains today.
In 2004, a need for a larger gathering area was determined. In 2005, a Family Life Center was constructed.
This facility added a large multi-purpose room which is used for banquets, open gym and for our Upward
Basketball/Cheerleading Ministry. Additional Sunday School classrooms, a Chapel, Youth meeting room,
nursery, music room, and larger kitchen area were added. In the picture to the left, the Family Life Center is the
additional extending from the right of the Church.
